Things around Hawkes Bay

Have been in Hawkes Bay for more than 3 months now and have explore slightly a little around here but not much. Here to share on what you could do over the weekends.

Te Mata Peak

A very peaceful up hill and just a 20 min drive from center of Hasting, a pretty good journey for a short day trip. There are 2 ways to explore this stunning scenery : By car or by foot. Entrance door closed at 10pm, so make sure you look out for your time.

I have went there for the first time by car, which mean you can just drive all the way to the peak (without hiking). But from other traveler’s opinion, it is best to go on foot all the way to the very top of the mountain as you can see lots of stunning views alone the way (which I hope I will do it next time).

Cape Kidnappers

Where you hike for 4 hours at least for one way during low tide and up you go to see the garnet and breathtaking view. Cape kidnappers can only be access when the tide is low, so make sure you do your own research and make sure there is enough gap for you to do a return trip on foot which you will be looking at 6-8 hours.

If you don’t want to do such a long walk, you can always follow the tour which cost you 40NZD for the transportation to get you to the end of the beach and you will still need to hike up to the submit.

Wine Tasting

I have only been to one wine tasting place which is – MISSION EASTATE WINERY. Atmosphere here is nice and relaxing. Wine tasting is at a price of 5NZD per person and do remember to bring your ID to proof your age. Also including in the price, they giving you a free small glass as souvenirs. Also not forgetting to mention, Hawkes Bay has the largest vineyards, so do get down to Hawkes Bay if you are a wine lover.

Cheese Tasting

Chalk n Cheese is located in Havelock North and they serve cheese. All kind of cheese. It is actually a cafe with nice environment where you can just sit down and have a coffee with your friends. They also provide cheese tasting for a price of 5NZD per person.
