How to get to Hallstatt

15326559_10154573755085090_2711101065165751179_nHallstatt is located on the eatern shore of the Hallstatter See. It is well known for its production of salt. It is very closed to Salzburg and easy access from Salzburg to Hallstatt. It looks complicated but it is fun and is not as complicated as it seems to be.

There are two ways of getting to hallstatt by public transport.

15338848_370930083247999_8764027033204248170_nOption 1: By bus (journey 2.15hours per way) with the price approximately: 15 EUR one way. Bus 150 can lead you to Bad Ischl station ( Click HERE for the time table). The bus station is located outside of the main train station in Salzburg. Is easy to find as it is a famous place to go from Salzburg so you could just ask around. Bus ticket can be bought on the bus directly from the driver and you could always ask the bus driver for the correct destination.

Option 2: By train (journey 2.50 Hours) with the price approximately : 15 – 28 EUR one way depending on the schedule that you have chosen.


The Ferry Terminal

No matter which option you choose, you will still need to get a short ferry ride from Hallstatt station to the island itself which will cost you 2.50 EUR one way, paying directly to the captain.

Remember to always check the time table as the connections are important, this timetables do help you to have smooth connection from the starting point to the end point.

How long to spend on Hallstatt?

15355770_10154573755005090_7685427642602549408_nHallstatt is easily done in a day but some people would love to stay at Hallstatt itself because it is really peaceful. If you are going in as a day trip, you should go early in the morning and try to get the last transportation back to salzburg.

Exploring Hallstatt

It is very tiny that it is easy to walk everywhere to explore even the famous salt mine. I would recommend you to visit salt mine if you could because it is one of the important historical in Hallstatt which I did not get a chance to see it because it was closed.

Food in Hallstatt

But if you like, do try their food in their restaurant with reasonable pricing , around 10 EUR – 20 EUR. If you are in a group, you could just share the cost. Food in all the restaurant are mostly recommended on trip advisor and is worth to try any of it. During lunch time, please be expected to be asked to wait. Also do try their fish, because it is really fresh.
