2017 is another great year for travel season for Malaysians (looking at National public holidays in Malaysia, for Singapore, feel free to visit:
Combining with 10 days of annual leave giving you 10 long weekends for a short getaway from your stressful, tired 9-6 job. Take a break, and travel.
Is easy to have a short getaway from Malaysia compare to other countries since AirAsia has been giving lots of destination and promotions. Of course, if you do not wish to travel by air, there are still plenty of places where you can explore by car.
I used to work in Singapore (but of course, it is easy to go from Malaysia as well), and I have always been looking for short getaway during long weekends and here are some of my own personal listing that I would recommend.
Koh Lipe, Thailand
A very peaceful island that is very near to Langkawi Malaysia. Easier reach by travelling from Langkawi by ferry (approximate 2.5 hours of ferry ride). Getting around at the island is accessible by foot.
An island that has no tax on everything. A place where most Malaysian spend their weekend getaway at. Flights to Langkawi from Kuala Lumpur is very cheap via AirAsia and the flight is less than an hour. Grab a beer, sit down at the beaches, with your friends. Is just a perfect place for getaway. But do keep in mind, during the year end, waves in Langkawi is dangerous, always be aware of the sign. Stay safe, travel safe.
Penang is getting more and more popular not only among the Malaysians but also internationally. It is also known as Georgetown, where most people love travelling over via car or flight for food. It is famous for their street arts and also lots of amazing food to try and you will never get bored of it.
Other than Penang, Malacca is also getting famous on a day trip or maybe 1 night getaway. It is a very short distance of driving from Kuala Lumpur to Malacca. But of course, it gets very crowded in traffic during weekends. Just be prepared to get squeeze and walking under humid weather, but do enjoy their local foods.
Is popular for its beach resort area in Pahang and located 30KM north of Kuantan. It is well-known for surfing paradise from December to March. I have not yet visit this island myself, but most of my friends have been travelling to here for surfing on a yearly basis and it is recommended for surfer lovers.
Probably not the very well-known city in the east side of Malaysia. Most people known them for Borneo. I am born in Kuching, Sarawak and I do recommend people to spend a weekend here if they could. Kuching has a lot of variety choices of food that you may not be able to get in other part of Malaysia. Kuching is also famous for their wildlife nature.
Cameron Highland, Malaysia
Tired of humid weather? Cameron highland gives you cozy weather that you doesn’t want to leave. This place is famous for Tea Plantation, Flowers, Vegetables Farms, Strawberry farms, Lavender, etc. A great place with a couple of friends for a relaxing atmosphere.
Neighbor of Malaysia and also known as one of the most expensive cities in the world. But, still spending a short getaway to Singapore is a great choice too. You can get there by Bus or by flight, which is pretty easily accessible. Great place for shopping.
Hong Kong & Taipei, Taiwan
It is possible to visit this two places in a short time and is not too far from Malaysia. Wanting to have good food and shopping, check this two places out. Airasia also have on and off promotions to this two popular destination.
Another paradise island add into your bucket list. It is a pain in the ass to get to this island, but it definitely worth your time to spend your long weekends here. It is best you give it a 4 days at least to this island because getting to the island will takes you around 6 hours.
Ho Chin Minh City, Vietnam
Want to have a good taste of coffee during your shortgetaway or maybe some cafe hopping? Visit HCMC, it definitely cure your craving for it. It is cheap to travel in HCMC but the only things that you have to beware is the scammers.
There are still many more other places to discover and explore for a short getaway. Have a great holiday in year 2017!
